In accordance with the gender perspective included in the project, Maria José Magalhaes of the Uniao de Mulheres Alternative and Resposta (UMAR) presented within the framework of Rehabilite’s partners meeting that took place in Amarante (Portugal), a workshop that addressed the interaction between women and energy, their degree of their participation in the sector, the factors that limit it and the importance of their empowerment to guarantee full social development. A space for discussion with the partners closed this session.
The Uniao de Mulheres Alternativa e Resposta is the organization in charge of assessing compliance with the horizontal principles and supporting gender awareness in the project. Established in 1976, this organization has a long history in defense of women's rights and the creation of spaces to improve their participation in different sectors of society in which they are underrepresented.
Following up on the workshops with gender experts that took place in the framework of partners meeting in Bordeaux in November 2017 and in Pamplona in December 2016, this last workshop responds to the importance that the project grants to overcome existing barriers regarding the inclusion of women in the sector.
